Common problems and solutions for PTFE when used in non-stick pan coatings:
1. Peeling of coating: This is a common problem. It may be due to improper use, such as scraping with a metal shovel, steel wool ball, or quenching at high temperatures, which causes the coating to expand and shrink unevenly, so that the coating is separated from the pot body and peels.
For example, rinsing a hot pan with cold water immediately after cooking, or stir-frying with excessive force while stir-frying, may cause the coating to be partially damaged and gradually peel off.
Solution: For coating peeling, avoid using sharp and hard objects such as metal spatulas and steel wool balls, and do not rinse the hot pan with cold water immediately after cooking. If the coating has peeled off, it is advisable to replace the pot.
2. Discoloration and yellowing: Long-term use at high temperatures, or exposure to certain chemicals, may make the coating discolored and yellow, affecting the appearance and non-stickiness. For example, it is often used to fry high-temperature fried food, which is prone to this situation.
Solution: Prevent discoloration and yellowing, and try to avoid long-term high-temperature cooking or contact with strong acids and alkalis
3. Decrease in non-stickiness: With the increase of the number of uses and the wear of the coating, the non-stickiness may gradually decrease.
Solution: To maintain non-stickiness, use wooden or silicone kitchenware, avoid high temperature air burning, and use mild detergent to clean.
4. Reduced corrosion resistance: After the coating is damaged, its corrosion resistance will also be affected, and it is easy to be eroded by the acid and alkali components in food.
Solution: Reduce scratches and damage, choose the right utensils, and use a soft sponge or rag when washing.
5. Potential health risks: If the coating peels off and is ingested by mistake, although a small amount of ingestion generally does not cause immediate serious harm, long-term accumulation may have potential health risks.
6. Limited lifespan: No matter how properly maintained, PTFE coatings have a certain lifespan, and pots and pans usually need to be replaced after a few years.
In order to extend the life and performance of PTFE nonstick pan coatings, proper use and care practices should be followed.
