TPU vs TPEE for Cable Sheathing, Hoses and Bellows: Which Flexible Elastomer Handles Your Duty Cycle?

Abrasion or flex fatigue? The duty cycle decides

TPU and TPEE are both block copolymers with hard and soft segments, and both jacket cables, cover hoses and form bellows. Yet they fail differently, and the honest question we ask every cable and hose maker is simple: what does your product spend its life doing? The duty cycle - not the datasheet hero value - should make the decision.

Where TPU wins

TPU leads on abrasion resistance, low-temperature flexibility and surface feel, which makes it the natural jacket for robotic and drag-chain cables, coiled cords and hydraulic hose covers that slide against steel tracks. Its cost position also suits consumer-facing products.

Where TPEE wins

TPEE is the fatigue specialist: constant-velocity joint boots, automotive corrugated tubing and rail and drag-chain jackets that bend millions of cycles at elevated temperature stay elastic long past where TPU hardens or cracks. Hydrolysis-resistant and halogen-free flame-retardant grades extend service into wet and safety-critical environments.
